BFGC Consultants collaborate to develop the World's first over-the-counter Male Fertility test

BFGC Consultants, Mr M Afnan and Mr K Sharif, were the clinical members of the team who developed the new over-the-counter Male Fertility test 'Fertell'. Both Mr Afnan and Mr Sharif are Honorary Senior Lecturers at Birmingham University, where they collaborated with Professor Chris Barratt, Professor of Reproductive Medicine, to develop the test. It is the World's first over-the-counter sperm test which is capable of detecting the presence of 10 million motile sperm per ml, the level of normal male fertility.

'Fertell' also contains a female fertility test, which measures a hormone called FSH (follicle stimulating hormones) that indicates the ability of the ovary to produce eggs capable of leading to a pregnancy (termed ovarian reserve). Mr Sharif and Mr Afnan, BFGC Consultants, have carried out research (published in the British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) to establish the role of FSH in assessing female fertility (see link below).

'Fertell' allows couples to to assess their fertility in the privacy of their own home. If problems are detected, then further specialist tests are needed, and these could be carried out at the BFGC.
